Fraud increase blamed on working from home
Research has found that over 8 in 10 mid-sized businesses experienced fraud in 2021, a 60% increase from the previous year.
Almost a third of respondents reported cyberattack security breaches over the course of 2021, which was the most common form. Companies faced damages of £223,000 on average and those in the professional services, leisure and finance industry were the hardest hit.
The research found that employees were often to blame, with 38% of frauds involved employees and outsiders conspiring, and over 25% were committed against the businesses by their employees alone.
The work from home guidance during the coronavirus pandemic is said to be a key factor in this.
