Generation Z Are Leading The Office Comeback

Generation Z are leading the office comeback

Gen Z are leading the charge as they head back into the office and hunt for premium experiences in the city, according to research.

According to a study which involved 2,000 London employees, four and five-day weeks in the office are back in fashion for Gen Z as over half (57%) say they want to increase their office attendance in 2023 from the current 3-day average.

On the other hand, their colleagues aged 35+ prefer one to two days in the office per week.

The energy and character of London is the main driver behind Gen Z's office intentions.

Their preferences and reasons for coming back to the office included:

  • Having an office in a 'buzzy area' (34%)
  • Cultural events nearby (34%)
  • Nice outdoor spaces for lunch breaks (33%)

So why do Gen Z want to return to the office, rather than spending most of their time working from home?

  1. Over half (54%) admit they feel lonely and isolated working at home
  2. They often go hours without talking to anyone (61%)

If your business operates from an office or has a hybrid / work from home model, it's important to ensure all your employees feel comfortable with their structure. This offers benefits for employee engagement and work performance. If you're unsure, a HR advisor will be able to offer guidance on keeping employees happy and maximising output.
