Over half of UK small businesses now have a smart meter
Businesses and households are wanting to cut their energy bills as much as possible. New data has found that smart meters are now in half of homes and small businesses.
In 2021 alone, 3.8 million were installed, nearly a 20% increase to 2020.
Smart meters allow customers to stay on track of how much energy they're using and how much it is costing from the comfort of their own home or premises. This can make it easier for them to save money and reduce their emissions by using less energy.
Energy prices are soaring in 2022 and continue to rise. It is thought this could be a factor for more people opting to install a smart meter to track how much they're spending. Another reason for the increase could be due to the COVID19 pandemic preventing customers from being able to have a smart meter fitted.
Customers are being advised on which tariffs they should use for the best cost-efficiency.
