Record high recruitment issues as 76% of businesses struggle to hire new staff
Record high recruitment difficulties for companies as 3 out of 4 businesses are struggling to hire new staff, according to the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
Approximately 61% of companies were trying to recruit new staff in Q2 of 2022 but 76% of these reported issues.
Of the 5,700 firms surveyed, the construction industry was found to be having the most difficulty, followed by the production, manufacturing and hospitality sectors.
The BCC have said that "solutions are urgently needed so that firms can keep their doors open throughout these tough times." They have also written to the government, outlining a three point plan on how they can help businesses to solve this crisis.
Firms are being encouraged to invest in:
- Training their workforce
- Adopting flexible working
- Utilising apprenticeship schemes
Currently, 1.3 million job vacancies are unfulfilled, and fewer people in workforces than before the covid-19 pandemic. This is reducing productivity and growth, employers are struggling.
